Layered in Batik florals, Ah Mama and Ancestry Lane are paintings referenced from old black and white family photographs. The mother and daughter relationship is the central underlying subject, while the overlaying batik pattern is reconstructed from vintage fabric that I inherited belonging to my grandmother.

Driven by a love of patterns and textiles, I explore ideas of identity, culture, ancestry, and traditions of record keeping.

I am inspired by the colors and patterns of my childhood found in traditional textiles. Painted acrylic layers reinterpret patterns and acknowledge the traditional skills and craftsmanship found in handmade artisan crafts. Photographic references are selected from old family albums and loose photographs in boxes that are passed down through generations.

My work is an examination of culture and relationships that map out our ancestral path. Through visual documentation, I find preservation of family histories and finding meaning in the moments that are captured and passed on overtime.
